The Abyss is a bloody, gory dimension.
Overview
The realmstone to this dimension is dropped by tricksters and the mobs of the bloodhunt event. When the player enters the Abyss, they will receive a Strength buff from Erebon.
What to bring
File:AmethindArmorIcons.png - Armor equivalent to diamond or higher. Despite how surprisingly killable the mobs are (thanks to Erebon's Strength buff), Web Reapers are a pain to deal with.
- You should always carry a potent weapon with you. Swords are especially potent in Erebon's dimensions due to how well their base damage synergizes with his Strength buff. Void Swords, Sapphire Swords, and casual Diamond Swords are certainly desirable picks.
- Bringing at least 1 full stack of food or more is handy, especially if you wish to go hunting for Flesh Eaters. It's especially recommended you bring food that can heal you, such as Golden Apples, Golden Gullfishes, and Violet Skippers. Golden Gullfishes and Violet Skippers can be found in the Overworld by fishing.
File:HunterAtt.png - Hunter level 14 is required to defeat Jawes. However, it must be level 35 in order to defeat Flesh Eaters. Fortunately, both can only be found in randomly generated structures.
Why come here
- Swords better than Sapphire - such as the Shadow Sword, Illusion Sword, and Bloodstone Sword - can be obtained from the Abyss. The latter can be crafted by mining Bloodstones, whereas the Shadow Sword and Illusion Swords can be found by defeating Elusive and the Shadowlord.
- Realmstones to the Ancient Cavern
- Guns better than the Moonshiner and Hot Shot- such as the Blood Iron and Bomb Launcher - can be obtained from the Abyss. Both of these guns can be obtained from fighting mobs.
Generation
The landscape of the Abyss is a combination of hills and flat areas. The underground of the dimension is made of abyssal stone, with a layer of abyssal grass on the surface. Bedrock exists at the bottom of the world. There is no dirt in the Abyss. The entirety of the dimension takes on a red color scheme.
The underground of the dimension is filled with caves. Bloodstone ore veins can be commonly found generating underground in the Abyss. Lakes filled with toxic blocks can be found deep underground, far below the surface, close to bedrock layer.
The surface of the Abyss is dotted with trees and gore-based plants and foliage. The Abyss is divided into three biomes - with the foliage varying depending on the biome. Lava lakes spawn on the surface of the Abyss.

Biomes
The Abyssal Eyelands biome.
There are a total of 3 biomes in the Abyss:
- Abyssal Void: The Abyssal Void contains the most diverse foliage out of the three biomes. In this biome, trees made of shadow wood and blood wood generate semi-commonly. Tentacles and shrubs cover the surface. Some of the trees and tentacles have eyes in them. The player may find the occasional tree with blood strands and eye blocks hanging off its branches. Huge archways made of abyssal stone also make up the landscape. Tubeicles and eye shrubs can be found on the surface.
- Abyssal Shadow Forest: The Abyssal Shadow Forest is filled with tall trees made of shadow wood. Shadow leaves appear in clusters on the ground. Shadicles and shadow shrubs generate here as plants.
- Abyssal Eyelands: The Abyssal Eyelands is populated with trees with blood strands and eye blocks. The trees are a lot smaller than the trees in the other biomes. Stacks of bulb stocks appear amongst the trees, alongside tubeicles.

Shadowlord Platform
Main Article: Shadowlord Platform
Shadowlord Platforms are short outposts composed of Bloodstone Bricks and contain a Shadow Altar on the top. The boss Shadowlord can be fought here by using a Book of Shadows on the Altar.
Shadowlord platforms can only spawn in Abyssal Shadow Forest biomes.

Illusion Tree

Illusion Trees are giant trees that have an Illusion Altar at the bottom of its trunk. The boss Elusive can be fought here by using a Staring Eye on the Altar.
Illusion trees can only generate in Abyssal Void biomes.

Flesh Temples are dungeons that spawn Flesh Eaters inside. These mobs can only be damaged at Hunter level 35 and above, so be careful.
This structure can spawn in any biome.

Jawe Hut

Jawe Huts are cage-like structures that contain spawners for the Jawes. Jawes can only be hurt if the player's Hunter experience is level 14 or higher.
Jawe huts can spawn in any Abyss biome except for Abyssal Shadow Forests.

The mobs in the Abyss have a bloody, macabre and monstrous feeling. There are 11 mobs in the Abyss. Out of those 11, four spawn in structures, and two of are hunter mobs.
