Skills as seen in-game.

Skills are a game mechanic in the mod that improve the player's stats, allow access to certain parts of the game, and enhance general gameplay. There are currently 14 types of trainable skills (as well as two unimplemented skills) in Advent of Ascension.

Overview

The player's skills can be made to appear/disappear by pressing the 'I' key by default. This can be changed by pausing the game, pressing Options, pressing Controls, and then changing the key to whatever the player wants.

The skills appear directly below the Resource Systems by default, however this can be changed in the config file (see configuration section below). The names of each individual skill can be made to appear by pressing the left and right arrow keys by default. Each skill has a bar underneath its respective icon that represents how much experience in that skill is needed to advance to the next level. The bar starts out red and starts to become green as the player gains xp. Once the bar becomes completely green, the skill level increases and the bar resets to all red again, except when the player reaches level 100, in this case the bar stays green. The current skill level is displayed next to the skill icon, on the top-right corner.

The amount of xp needed to advance to the next level increases with each level. All skills have a maximum level of 100. Once the player reaches level 100, a fanfare will play and the player will not be able to train the skill anymore.

Training Skills

Although training most skills is optional, five of them are required to be trained in order to defeat all of the bosses in the game.

Each skill is trainable in a different way. The way xp is gained can be divided into two categories. In some skills, such as Hunter, items unlocked higher in the skill grant more xp than lower level items, thus training the skill effectively requires the player to focus their training on these higher-level items. Other skills, such as Expedition, will grant more xp for the same tasks as the player's skill level becomes greater. Acquiring xp for a skill is easy for some skills and rigorous for others.

Skill Crystals can be used to grant xp to the player's skills. When used, a skill crystal will grant xp equivalent to the skill crystal's size, to the player's highest level skill. In order to use a skill crystal, the player has to have at least one skill that is level 15 or higher. If the player has at least one skill at level 100, skill crystals will be rendered useless.

Commands to alter the player's skills currently do not exist. In order to edit a player's skill, one must use an NBT editor.

The Robbery and Hermetism skills are currently unimplemented and are untrainable.

Rewards

Training the skills unlocks access to certain items and parts of the game. Most items unlocked by the skills are beneficial and can help the player progress. With the exception of these five skills, getting the rewards from the skills is not required to complete the game.

Once the player reaches level 100 in a skill, the player will be able to wear Artistry Armor related to the skill.
