Goblins are hostile ranged mobs that spawn naturally in the Overworld.

Spawning

Goblins spawn naturally in most biomes in the Overworld.

They will only spawn during the day, and like most other mobs; their spawning can be prevented by placing torches or other lighting blocks nearby to raise the light level above 7.

Behavior

Goblins are ranged mobs that will follow targets both on land and in water. Like most ranged mobs, they will try quite hard to avoid getting into water, but will do so if necessary. When attacking a target, they will either stand still or strafe at a distance while firing projectiles.

They are aggressive, and will attack nearby players within 24 blocks without provocation. If attacked by another entity, they will retaliate and continue targeting that entity.

Staying outside of their targeting range will prevent them from attacking or targeting entities.

Bestiary Entry

Goblins are generally considered a pest by most landowners and explorers, and are generally mostly well known for their destructive, provocative tendencies.

While technically a humanoid, Goblins are entirely unrelated to the human species, and evolved separately. Regardless of this, they have evolved some sort of primitive intellect, and are able to communicate with each other. They are also able to interact with a basic form of magic, which they primarily use to shoot high-energy projectiles at whomever or whatever they see fit.

They aren't considered aggressive, however their constant pestering and tendency to fire projectiles at nearby creatures has caused them to be treated as if they are aggressive. Deal with them with caution, as goblins like to work together, and can easily overwhelm if in groups.
