Shade are hostile melee mobs that spawn from hitting Shadows.

Spawning[edit | edit source]

Shades do not spawn naturally, and instead are spawned when a Shadow is attacked.

Behavior[edit | edit source]

Shades are melee mobs that will follow targets both on land and in water. They will initially attempt to avoid getting into the water where possible, but will go in if they find no other path to their target.

They are aggressive, and will attack nearby players within 16 blocks without provocation. If attacked by another entity, they will retaliate and continue targeting that entity.

Staying outside of their targeting range will prevent them from attacking or targeting entities.

Classification[edit | edit source]

Shades are classified as undead creatures, and as such the effects of Smite will apply to them.

Immunities[edit | edit source]

Shades are completely immune to potion effects, regardless of what the source of the effect is. Because of this, it is impossible to slow, weaken, wither, or poison ghosts, among other status effects, including beneficial ones such as strength or speed.

Shadows are Shade's roaming form. They spawn naturally in the Overworld.

Spawning[edit | edit source]

Shadows spawn naturally in all biomes in the Overworld.

They will only spawn under Y=45, and only in places with a light level lower than 8. Their spawning can be prevented by placing torches or other lighting blocks nearby to raise the light level above 7.

Behavior[edit | edit source]

Upon being hit, they will instantly transform into its Shade form and retaliate.
